Project Planning Considerations

Planning Considerations

  • For a floor LED experience, confirm the display thickness, recessed-floor depth, finished floor level and surrounding interior interfaces before site work begins.
  • For guest-facing F&B environments with foot traffic, potential moisture or splash-prone areas, assess protection, cleaning access and operating conditions alongside the visual brief.
  • For several displays with different storytelling roles, plan the media-player, network and cloud content workflow as part of the system rather than treating every screen as an isolated endpoint.

Project Overview

Yang Ming Seafood at VivoCity was developed around an immersive seafood-restaurant concept intended to make diners feel as though they had entered a coastal fishing village. The design company working on the restaurant engaged ETA Visual to explore how LED could become part of that experience rather than operate only as a conventional advertising screen. The completed concept combined a floor-mounted entrance display, three fish-tank-effect LED areas and a large wall display beside the live seafood tanks, with a content workflow for the restaurant marketing team.

Designing LED Into the Restaurant Experience

At the entrance, a floor-mounted LED display was used to show waves moving across a beach. A wooden boat positioned above the display created the visual impression of a boat resting on the shore.

Three areas on the right-hand side were designed to resemble fish tanks. Instead of building physical tanks with live fish, LED content created the effect of fish moving through water. Beside the live seafood tanks on the left, a large wall-mounted LED display showed brand and product-related video content, including the seafood and farming environment associated with Yang Ming Seafood.

Integrating an LED Floor Screen Flush With the Interior

The floor LED structure was approximately 80 mm thick, so the construction team created a recessed area of around 80 mm. This allowed the display to sit within the surrounding floor rather than project above it.

For immersive restaurant work, the floor build-up, display thickness, finished floor level and the final visual relationship with surrounding features must be coordinated together before installation. The project shows how LED can become part of the interior architecture when these interfaces are considered early.

Engineering Challenges & Solutions

Challenge 1

Making an LED Floor Screen Part of a Guest-Facing Interior

The Challenge

The entrance floor screen had to create a seamless beach-and-wave visual while sitting flush with the surrounding floor. A conventional surface-mounted display would interrupt the intended interior effect.

ETA Visual's Solution

The construction team formed an approximately 80 mm recessed area to accommodate the floor LED structure. This allowed the screen to integrate into the interior architecture and support the intended boat-on-the-beach visual.

Challenge 2

Selecting Protection for Foot Traffic and Potential Moisture Exposure

The Challenge

The floor display can be exposed to foot traffic and potential contact with water, while the wall screen beside the live seafood tanks can be exposed to splash and residue. These conditions required more consideration than a conventional dry wall display.

ETA Visual's Solution

ETA Visual selected GOB-protected LED modules for the floor and wall applications. GOB surface protection helps improve suitability for physical contact and moisture exposure; regular surface cleaning is recommended when water marks or residue accumulate.

Challenge 3

Coordinating Several Displays as One Content Experience

The Challenge

The entrance floor, fish-tank-effect areas and wall display had different visual roles. Updating each screen individually would make day-to-day content management less efficient.

ETA Visual's Solution

A cloud-based video-distribution workflow was provided so centrally uploaded content could be distributed remotely across the restaurant's multiple LED displays. The marketing team manages content, with remote guidance available when required.

GOB Protection and Practical Cleaning Considerations

GOB (Glue on Board) surface protection was selected because the floor display is exposed to physical contact and possible moisture, while the wall display is positioned near live seafood tanks. The protection helps shield LED components from contact and moisture in these guest-facing conditions.

Saltwater splash can leave marks or residue and can contribute to corrosion risk around electronic equipment. Regular cleaning of the visible display surface is recommended when water marks or residue accumulate, helping maintain both appearance and long-term performance.

  • Coordinate the recessed floor depth with the actual LED structure before finishing works
  • Assess GOB-protected modules for guest-facing contact and moisture conditions
  • Plan practical cleaning access near live-seafood and splash-prone areas

Cloud-Based Content Distribution Across Multiple Displays

The restaurant marketing team manages the content. ETA Visual can provide remote guidance and assistance when required, including support for uploading and downloading video content.

For multi-screen restaurant environments, a cloud video-distribution workflow reduces the need for staff to visit every screen individually. Content can be uploaded centrally and distributed remotely across the appropriate LED locations.

What Made the Restaurant LED Experience Work

1

Experience-led screen placement

Floor, fish-tank-effect and wall displays were assigned distinct roles in one restaurant narrative instead of being treated as isolated advertising screens.

2

Flush interior integration

An approximately 80 mm recess allowed the floor LED structure to align with the surrounding finish and support the intended visual effect.

3

Environment-aware module selection

GOB-protected LED modules were selected for the floor and wall applications because of physical contact, moisture and saltwater-residue considerations.

4

Central content workflow

Cloud video distribution supports more efficient updates across several LED displays from a central content process.

Delivered Experience

  • The Yang Ming Seafood concept combined an entrance beach-and-wave floor screen, three virtual fish-tank LED areas and a wall display beside live seafood tanks into one immersive dining environment.
  • The floor screen was integrated into an approximately 80 mm recessed area, allowing the LED installation to sit within the interior architecture rather than above it.
  • GOB-protected modules and a cloud content-distribution workflow supported the operating conditions and multi-screen content needs recorded for the project.
